Montreal and the Biosphere
After waking up at the Humaniti and having breakfast, we took the metro to visit the Bisophere, which was under renovation. We then took the metro and bus to Mile End where we had bagels from both St-Viateur and Fairmount. We ended the day with poutine at La Banquise and snacks in Chinatown.

Mont Royal
After arriving in Montreal, we took the airport bus to the city and checked into our hotel, the Humaniti. Our first stop was Schwartz’s Deli where we had smoked meat sandwiches. We then walked up Mont Royal where we stayed until sunset before returning to visit Chinatown, right next to our hotel.

Leaving Amsterdam
After one final breakfast at the Apollo Hotel in Amsterdam, we checked out and headed over to AMS for our flight back to IAD in the US.

Van Gogh and the Rijksmuseum
After waking up at the Apollo, we had the usual breakfast and headed over to the Rijksmuseum for our timed entry. After spending the morning there, we had lunch at the Albert Cuyp Markt before visiting the Van Gogh Museum, where we stayed until closing time. We ended the day with a Suriname cuisine dinner followed by a walk back to the Apollo.

The Hague
After breakfast at the Apollo Hotel Amsterdam, we took the train over to The Hague, walked around the historic city center, and visited a temporary observation tower. After, we spent some time at the Mauritshuis, home to Vermeer’s “Girl with a Pearl Earring,” before returning to Amsterdam.

Utrecht
After waking up a the Apollo Hotel in Amsterdam and having breakfast, we walked around a bit before taking the train to Utrecht where we spent most of the day. We walked around the city’s unique canals, had lunch, and visited St. Martin’s Cathedral before returning to Amsterdam for dinner.

Kinderdijk and Rotterdam
After waking up at the Apollo Hotel, we had breakfast in the restaurant and headed via train to Rotterdam and boat to Kinderdijk, a UNESCO World Heritage Site featuring historic Dutch windmills. After, we returned to Rotterdam where we saw the city’s unique cube houses and had dinner at the Market Hall.

Den Bosch
After waking up at the Apollo Hotel and having breakfast, we took the train to Den Bosch. Once there, we took a canal tour and visited a museum dedicated to local painter Jheronimus Bosch. We followed up with a quick visit to St. John’s Cathedral before meeting up with a friend.

Amsterdam
After arriving at AMS, we headed to the Apollo Hotel to check in. We then headed into historic central Amsterdam where we visited the Royal Palace, followed by the New Church, Old Church, and Basilica of Saint Nicholas. We also spent time walking by the city’s canals, had some Dutch snacks, and had a seafood dinner.

Fall Foliage at Catoctin Mountain Park
The latest fall foliage report showed that Frederick County was at peak. So, we went to Catoctin Mountain Park to take a look. Peak is probably not how we’d have described what we saw! After spending some time hiking, we drove over to Frederick to have lunch and to take a walk through the small city’s downtown area.
