After arriving in Athens, we checked into the Grande Bretagne at Syntagma Square. We watched the guard change at the Monument to the Unknown Soldier and walked through the National Garden and Aristotle’s Lyceum. After lunch, we visited the marble Panathenaic Stadium and Temple of Olympian Zeus before dinner.

We checked out early from the W Rome in order to arrive at Fiumicino with enough time for our morning departure on United. Luckily, there was food in the mostly mediocre Prime Vista lounge. We departed on time and arrived an hour early at Dulles.

After landing at FCO, we entered Italy and checked in at the W Rome. We visited the Spanish Steps, Basilica dei Santi Ambrogio e Carlo al Corso, and the Castel Sant’Angelo. We briefly visited the Vatican, saw Rome from atop the Janiculum, and ate pizza, pasta, and gelato. It was a great first day in Rome!

After waking up and having breakfast at the The Strings by InterContinental, we checked out and visited Sengaku-ji, the final resting place of the 47 Ronin. We then briefly visited Happo-en before returning to the InterContinental to pick up our bags before going to Haneda for our flight home to the US on United.

After leaving Guam and returning to Haneda, we checked in at the new Mercure Tokyo Haneda Airport. We visited the atré at Shinagawa Station where we had lunch at the new Toriton kaiten sushi restaurant. We spent the evening looking at the winter illuminations near Tokyo Station.
