Local Cherry Blossoms & Finches
It has been nearly a week since the local cherry blossoms have started to bloom. The first few trees still look wonderful with very few petals that have fallen to the ground. The weather has been quite a bit cooler since the first day and trees that started a bit later seem to have quite a mix of flowers and buds. Today, we were treated to a wonderful sight – a few male House Finches were busy eating the flowers!

DC Cherry Blossoms, Again
We headed down again to Washington DC today and once again viewed the cherry blossoms. While the weather was a bit cool, it was quite pleasant though unfortunately the sky was overcast. Overall, quite a few of the cherry blossoms have fallen from the trees already, perhaps because of the cool and rainy weather yesterday. Some of the trees that were a bit late in blooming have progressed, but there are still quite a few unopened buds on many of the trees. We think maybe the cooler weather is slowing things down a bit.

DC Peak Bloom
The National Park Service officially declared peak bloom for the cherry blossoms yesterday! So of course, we had to visit this morning. We planned on arriving before sunrise but ended up much later due to significant traffic on the way and then failing to find a nearby parking spot. However, the cherry blossoms were beautiful once we finally made it there!

Local Cherry Blossoms, Day 3
It has been a bit cooler since the local cherry blossoms just started to bloom but that hasn’t stopped them at all! The tree that we photographed two days ago had a few visible flowers but now many of them have bloomed!

Surprise Maryland Snow
While snow had been forecast for the region, it was questionable as to whether or not it would snow in eastern Howard County. The forecasts changed and snow was anticipated. And indeed, it snowed! We needed to be in Columbia so decided to walk around a bit to check out the snow.

Occasional Astrophotography
I’ve dabbled rather casually in astrophotography over the years, much of which predates the existence of this site. All with standard off the shelf DSLR (and now mirrorless) equipment and without the aid of anything other than a tripod.

Acadia National Park, Day 4
We woke up to a rather foggy morning today with a very tiny bit of fresh snow on the ground. We drove to the Schoodic Peninsula to visit the only part of Acadia National Park on the mainland. There was quite a bit of fog but also some nice blue sky. A nice bonus was seeing a number of birds including multiple Bald Eagles! Afterwards, we headed back to Portland, Maine via the scenic route on US-1, stopping to visit a few sights along the way.

Acadia National Park, Day 3
This morning started out with some light snow with large puffy flakes. Things were looking good! We visited a few spots in Acadia National Park and did two short hikes. Unfortunately, the snow stopped pretty quickly and it started raining in the afternoon. We ended up just checking out a few more spots along the road on the way back.

Acadia National Park, Day 2
We spent our second day in Acadia National Park today, spending most of our time hiking around Jordan Pond. As the weather was good and the sun was out, we started out on the coast to see the difference compared to yesterday when it was dark and rainy. Later in the day, after finishing at Jordan Pond, we visited some other ponds and lakes in the park before calling it a day.
