We headed over to Fiesch by train this morning to visit the mountains that are part of Aletsch Arena. We visited two mountaintops by gondola & aerial tram and also walked between two mid-mountain towns. A fantastic day!

We headed out this morning to Rochers de Naye, a mountain just inland from the lakeside town of Montreux. The easiest way up is a steep cog train ride up from Montreux station. We did a little bit of hiking before coming back down and taking a boat ride and a long walk along the lake shore.

We headed to Chamonix by train this morning from Switzerland. We intended to visit the ice cave as well as take the aerial tram up to the approximately 12,600 foot tall Aiguille du Midi. Unfortunately, we didn’t get to do all those things due to some unanticipated closures but still had a good time. We’ll have to come back to experience what we missed as well as other summer activities that weren’t available due to it being at the very end of the summer activity season.

It has been around a month since our last visit to the Meadowlark Botanical Gardens in Northern Virginia. We headed over in the early afternoon for a walk through the park. As usual, we saw quite a few birds though the swallows were absent. And as usual we saw quite a few flowers!

We headed to Arapahoe Basin in the morning and arrived just in time for the 9am opening time. We took the Black Mountain Express chairlift up to mid-mountain and started hiking upwards. The plan was to make it to the new Steilhang Hut but we ended up going all the way to the Snow Plume Refuge.
